Tourism Malaysia Boosts Digital Reach with VM2026 Creators Onboard Programme

Tourism Malaysia has successfully concluded the VM2026 Creators Onboard programme held from 10 to 12 December 2025, bringing together social media influencers and digital content creators who actively support the promotion of Malaysia as a travel destination. Now in its second edition, the programme underscores the growing importance of digital storytelling in strengthening Malaysia’s tourism visibility ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.

A total of 50 selected creators took part in a carefully curated three-day, two-night journey across Desaru, Johor. The programme was designed to immerse participants in eco-tourism experiences and nature-based attractions, allowing them to capture and share authentic travel narratives rooted in Malaysia’s natural environment.

Throughout the programme, participants explored a wide range of attractions including the Lebam River Cruise, birdwatching at Tanjung Balau, immersive stargazing sessions, Adventure Waterpark at Desaru Coast, Tanjung Balau Fishermen Museum and the Ostrich Farm Desaru. They also experienced ATV farm tours at Desaru Fruit Farm, adding an element of adventure to the itinerary. A Canon Digital Workshop held at The Els Club Desaru Coast further enhanced the programme, equipping creators with advanced photography and videography skills using Canon cameras while they documented Johor’s rich biodiversity and landscapes.

The programme concluded with an Appreciation Dinner at The Westin Desaru Coast, themed “VM2026 Creators On Board: Malaysia Through The Screen”. The evening celebrated the dedication and contributions of the participating creators, while reflecting the diversity of Malaysia’s tourism offerings. From tranquil coastal escapes and scenic road journeys to dynamic outdoor experiences, the theme highlighted how creators play a central role in presenting Malaysia’s stories to global audiences through digital platforms.

Mr Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, emphasised the importance of digital creators in today’s tourism landscape. He noted that the VM2026 Creators Onboard programme demonstrates how firsthand experiences and collaborative engagement enable influencers to share authentic stories that showcase Malaysia’s beauty, culture and diversity. He expressed confidence that initiatives of this nature will further strengthen Malaysia’s position as a leading travel destination ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.

This edition of the programme was made possible through the support of strategic partners including Lembaga Kemajuan Johor Tenggara, Canon Malaysia and Desaru Coast Travels Sdn Bhd. It was also reinforced by the ongoing efforts of the #MYTravelNation community initiative, reflecting Tourism Malaysia’s continued commitment to nurturing a network of passionate digital storytellers who amplify Malaysia’s tourism brand on a global scale.

Aligned with Visit Johor 2026 and the national preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026, which targets 47 million international visitors, the VM2026 Creators Onboard programme highlights the pivotal role of digital creators in inspiring travel and sharing Malaysia’s unique tourism experiences with the world.
