Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad is gearing up for the return of its annual Heritage Run 2026, a special commemorative edition held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2026. Scheduled for 12 July 2026, the fourth edition of the Run will return to the historic Padang Kota Lama with a refreshed format and exclusive limited-edition merchandise, reinforcing the Bank’s commitment to community and sustainability. Following the success of the 2025 edition, which saw a turnout of 5,500 participants, the 2026 Run is poised to attract an even broader domestic and international participation, evolving beyond a community sports event into a vibrant cultural tourism showcase that highlights Penang’s distinctive landmarks and multicultural identity.
This year’s edition encourages participants to ‘level up’ their personal fitness goals through expanded race categories that cater to all skill levels. For the first time, the 3 km fun run designed for families will feature a “Best Dressed Family” challenge where participants will compete in their finest traditional wear. Meanwhile, the newly introduced competitive 10 km race aims to motivate runners to elevate their personal best records, while the 21 km half marathon category is designed to attract avid marathoners. Beyond the race itself, the event delivers a multi-sensory cultural experience, featuring lively performances along selected routes and interactive cultural preservation activities such as a large art collective painting.
Group Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Bank, Kellee Kam, noted that the Heritage Run has become a deeply meaningful tradition that reflects the Bank’s commitment to fostering unity, health, and sustainability. This commitment is further reflected in the event’s eco-friendly approach, where finisher medals are made from sustainably sourced bamboo and event memorabilia, including batik-inspired lanyards and canvas bags, celebrate Penang’s cultural identity. Additionally, the yearly #SupportLokal bazaar will be reimagined as a heritage-focused marketplace, providing a vital platform for small businesses and entrepreneurs to showcase local food and artisanal crafts.
Race Categories and Prizes
The Heritage Run 2026 offers three distinct distances to cater to seasoned and beginner runners alike, with a total prize pool of RM20,000 in cash prizes to be won across the competitive categories:
- 3 km Fun Run: Ideal for families and beginners, featuring the “Best Dressed Family” traditional wear challenge.
- 10 km Competitive Race: A new category designed for those looking to transition from shorter runs to a more competitive distance.
- 21 km Half Marathon: The premier category aimed at avid runners and long-distance enthusiasts.
