Tourism Malaysia celebrated the nation’s golfing and tourism excellence at the World Amateur Golfers Championship (WAGC) 2025 Gala Dinner and Awards Presentation, held at the Landing Convention Centre, Jeju Shinhwa World on 7 November. The prestigious event gathered more than 600 guests from over 39 countries to honour the achievements of amateur golfers from across the globe. The evening also marked the official handover of the host nation flag to Malaysia, which will host the WAGC World Final 2026 in Johor. The 2025 championship concluded with Team China crowned as Team Champion, followed by Team Indonesia in second place and Team Philippines in third.
Representing Malaysia, Ms. Kamilia Hani Abd Halim, Director of Tourism Malaysia Seoul, delivered remarks emphasizing Malaysia’s readiness to welcome participants from around the world for the upcoming championship. The gala dinner not only celebrated the conclusion of WAGC 2025 but also served as an important international platform to promote Malaysia as the next host destination. Tourism Malaysia supported the event with a vibrant cultural performance, a screening of the Visit Malaysia 2026 promotional video, and an engaging presentation highlighting Malaysia’s premier golf tourism destinations. These efforts showcased the country’s diverse tourism experiences and its warm hospitality to an international audience ahead of next year’s event.
As Malaysia prepares to host the WAGC World Final 2026, the championship will align with Visit Malaysia 2026 — a global tourism campaign celebrating the nation’s natural beauty, rich culture, and world-class travel experiences. Malaysia is widely recognised as one of Asia’s leading golf tourism destinations, offering a range of courses set against scenic tropical coastlines, lush highlands, and serene countryside landscapes. With modern facilities, year-round playability, and excellent air connectivity, Malaysia continues to attract golf enthusiasts and travellers seeking both sport and leisure.
Tourism Malaysia views its involvement in the WAGC as a strategic opportunity to strengthen the country’s positioning as a premier destination for golf and high-value niche tourism. The 2026 edition is expected to attract over 700 participants from 40 countries, creating significant international visibility and encouraging long-term collaborations within the global golfing community.
In her speech, Ms. Kamilia commended the WAGC organisers and participants for their successful tournament in Jeju and expressed appreciation for the strong partnership between Malaysia and the WAGC network. “Golf is more than just a sport. Beyond sportsmanship and friendship, it builds intercultural understanding and strengthens bonds between nations. The World Amateur Golfers Championship embodies these ideals of unity and global connection through sports,” she said.
Tourism Malaysia’s participation in the WAGC 2025 Gala Dinner highlights its ongoing efforts to promote Malaysia’s tourism potential through global partnerships and people-to-people engagement. The upcoming WAGC 2026 World Final in Malaysia will be among the key highlights of the Visit Malaysia 2026 celebration — a convergence of sport, culture, and tourism that will offer visitors and participants an unforgettable experience.
