Many students in the region lack access to vital educational resources. Despite ongoing efforts to repair and improve facilities, the library’s resources are still insufficient to meet the needs of its large student body. The donation made today will significantly address this gap—providing 1,512 students with a richer selection of novels, educational materials, and activity guides that will support their academic and personal development.
This book donation was part of the Books Build Legacy initiative, launched by BESarawak. The event was co-organized by the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), who embraced the Books Build Legacy program to magnify the event’s positive impact.
Hon. Datuk Snowdan Lawan, the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts in Sarawak and Member of Parliament for N30, stated: “Education plays a transformative role in changing lives. Even in an increasingly digital world, books remain crucial in helping young people succeed academically and in life. The Balai Ringin community is deeply grateful for the generosity shown by DCCI, KCCI, BESarawak, and all those involved in this effort. Thank you for coming together for this cause.”
Dato Allan Keripin Nangkai, President of DCCI, shared: “Our original target was to collect 1,000 books, but within just two days, we surpassed that goal, reaching 2,000 books. The overwhelming response from the local community and participants at the event highlights our unity and collective spirit when working toward a common goal. DCCI will continue to promote socio-economic development for the Dayak communities through business events and other opportunities.”
Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak, commented: “The true impact of business events extends beyond the events themselves; it lies in the connections and relationships formed. The success of the Books Build Legacy initiative during the 15th Joint DCCI-KCCI Gawai-Kaamatan 2024 Celebration is a testament to the power of these relationships, demonstrating how meaningful and impactful our collective efforts can be when directed toward a noble cause.”
The 15th Joint DCCI-KCCI Gawai-Kaamatan Celebration not only fostered cultural unity between the people of Sarawak and Sabah but also highlighted the organizers’ commitment to supporting and empowering indigenous communities.
