The Kuching-based pickleball team, Croc Can Dinks, has proudly made a significant contribution to the local community by donating 300 children’s books to BESarawak’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Book Build Legacy.

This donation coincides with the upcoming Borneo Pickleball International Tournament (BPIT) 2024, an event designed not only to promote the sport of pickleball but also to engage the community and encourage educational development. By supporting this initiative, Croc Can Dinks highlights the importance of literacy and access to books for young readers, showing how sports can foster positive change in society.

In today’s fast-paced digital world, encouraging children to read is more crucial than ever. The donation of these books underscores the team’s belief in the transformative power of reading. The Books Build Legacy program aims to provide children with the tools they need for lifelong learning, helping to cultivate a generation that values education. With this contribution, Croc Can Dinks is not just participating in a sports event but also taking actionable steps to create a meaningful impact in the lives of young readers within the community.

As part of this initiative, BPIT 2024 is actively encouraging all players and spectators to join in the effort by donating new or gently used children’s books that are suitable for readers aged 12 and under. The response from the community can significantly enhance the reach and effectiveness of the Books Build Legacy program. Donations will be accepted until October 13, providing ample opportunity for everyone to contribute. Interested donors can conveniently drop off their books at several accessible locations, including:

  1. The Hills Kuching, Book Corner @ Food Haven: Known for its inviting atmosphere and strong community ties, this popular local venue is a great place for book donations.
  2. DayakDaily office, located at TT3 Plaza, Off Jalan Canna, Kuching: As a central hub for local news and community events, this location encourages local participation and engagement.
  3. PIKABOL, which will serve as a dedicated donation point from October 10 to 13, coinciding with the tournament festivities. This setup allows attendees to support the cause while enjoying the excitement of the matches.

In addition to these community efforts, three local organizations have stepped up to support Croc Can Dinks in their participation in BPIT 2024. BESarawak, a key promoter of business events in the region, has expressed pride in backing the team’s participation in the Team Event category. This partnership highlights BESarawak’s commitment to fostering community engagement through sports and underscores the positive influence that athletic events can have on local communities.

Furthermore, Hon Ang Restaurant and Tat Ee Marketing have generously agreed to sponsor the team’s official jerseys. This collaboration not only strengthens the team’s presence but also reflects the unity between local businesses and the community. It illustrates how these partnerships can create opportunities for local athletes, allowing them to showcase their skills on an international stage while receiving essential support from their hometown.

The Borneo Pickleball International Tournament 2024 is set to unfold at PIKABOL from October 10 to 13. With an impressive registration of 500 players from across Southeast Asia, the tournament promises to be a spectacular showcase of athletic talent and competitive spirit. Participants will bring diverse backgrounds and skills, creating an exciting atmosphere filled with thrilling matches. Organizers anticipate drawing an enthusiastic crowd of around 2,000 spectators, who will gather to support the athletes and partake in the festivities.

Beyond the competitive matches, BPIT 2024 will serve as a platform for community engagement, where attendees can witness the positive impact of sports and literacy initiatives. The tournament is not merely about competition; it’s a celebration of community spirit, inclusivity, and the importance of giving back. As players vie for victory, they will also be ambassadors for a cause that transcends the game, inspiring others to contribute to community initiatives that foster education and growth.

As the BPIT 2024 approaches, the excitement builds not only for the athletic competition but also for the collective effort to strengthen community ties and promote literacy among children. The collaboration between Croc Can Dinks, local organizations, and the community exemplifies the power of sports to effect meaningful change and create a lasting legacy.
