Herbalife, a global health and wellness company, has further strengthened its commitment in Malaysia by renewing its partnership with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed at UiTM Shah Alam, marks the continuation of a collaboration that began in 2022, focusing on nutrition education, research development in sports science, and the promotion of healthier lifestyles among Malaysians.
The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by faculty members, students, and senior university officials. The official exchange of documents was carried out by Steven Chin, Senior Director and General Manager of Herbalife Malaysia and Singapore, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raja Mohammed Firhad Raja Azidin, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation at UiTM.
Since the start of this partnership, Herbalife and UiTM have introduced a wide range of initiatives bridging academia, industry, and community. These include knowledge-sharing sessions with Herbalife’s global experts, the MASM Football Science Workshop Series which gathered coaches and athletes, as well as the introduction of performance assessment methods and nutrition strategies used by international teams. These efforts have not only raised the standard of football science in Malaysia but also empowered local coaches to guide athletes towards higher performance levels.

Additionally, the Herbalife–UiTM Entrepreneurship Programme has provided opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to build confidence, gain knowledge, and receive mentorship. It has positioned health and wellness not just as a lifestyle, but also as a promising career pathway.
According to Steven Chin, the collaboration has delivered positive impact over the past three years, including direct access to international nutrition experts, learning platforms for coaches and athletes, and career exploration opportunities for students in the health and wellness sector. With this renewed MoU, Herbalife aims to further embed wellness, nutrition, and sports science into the daily lives of Malaysians.
Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raja Mohammed Firhad highlighted that partnerships with industry players such as Herbalife help bridge the gap between theory and practice, producing graduates who are more prepared and confident to enter their careers.
The MoU exchange also took place in conjunction with the National Association of Physical Education and Sports Science (NAPESS) International Conference 2025, themed “Optimizing Performance and Wellness: Innovation in Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences.” During the conference, Herbalife hosted an industry engagement session, while Dr. Simon Sum, Herbalife’s Director of Scientific Affairs, delivered a presentation titled “Efficient Engines: Optimizing Carbohydrate Metabolism for Peak Endurance.” His talk emphasized the critical role of carbohydrates as the body and brain’s primary energy source and provided a balanced perspective on popular nutrition trends such as low-carbohydrate and ketogenic diets.
This renewed collaboration is expected to continue making a significant impact in empowering students, athletes, and the wider community, in line with Herbalife and UiTM’s vision of building a healthier, smarter, and more competitive Malaysian society.
