To promote the cultural treasures of Malaysian textile arts and fashion, MOTAC TKSU Supports the “Precious of Malaysia Festival 2022.”

Encik Mohd Yusri bin Mohd Yusoff, Deputy Secretary-General (Culture), Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, proudly announced the launch of the “Precious of Malaysia Festival 2022,” a seven-day festival embracing Malaysia’s traditions, culture, and heritage through fashion, to give visitors an understanding of our country’s distinctive and biodiverse ethnicities. FM Group is hosting the festival in Along with this historic event, FM Group and UM will host Cultural Fashion Week, a fashion design competition that will teach college students how to start their own fashion enterprises.

Supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), the festival marks the efforts and contributions of the organizers to promote Malaysian culture to local and international visitors, as well as being the platform of creative expression and entrepreneurship for university students to develop essential skills and attributes to excel in the fashion industry.

Encik Mohd Yusri bin Mohd Yusoff, Deputy Secretary-General (Culture), Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, shared, “The Precious of Malaysia 2022 will be a prime example of a great tourist attraction for locals and foreigners to perceive and appreciate Malaysia’s immense diversity of cultures, some of which dates back to nearly 600 years ago – all under one roof. Having the festival at University Malaya will not only showcase a unique historical landmark in Kuala Lumpur but also remind and educate the rakyat on the importance of preserving our culture and heritage for generations to come.”

 FM Group and UM prioritize the upskilling of the fashion industry as a whole, while also encouraging Malaysian talents to challenge themselves and create outstanding masterpiece designs to ultimately generate a tremendous demand for traditional Malaysian costumes all over the world. As such, the Precious of Malaysia Festival 2022 will also serve as a platform for local designers to express their talent and showcase their best designs for cultural and traditional costumes that are sure to leave visitors in awe.

Mr. Farel Mikhail, President of Precious of Malaysia said, “We believe this festival serves as a representation of Malaysia, all in one event. Not only do we hope to play a vital role in preserving and displaying our arts, culture, and heritage sites for local and international visitors, but we also hope to drive individuals who have a passion for fashion, to pursue their passions and ultimately convert it into a career by providing them the education needed to reach out for their aspirations.”

Festival-goers can expect a jam-packed immersive cultural experience from 5 – 11 December 2022 at University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, with a myriad of activities that are to come such as cultural fashion shows by local designers, carnival activities & food trucks, a textile exhibition by Museum Textile Negara; traditional performances, booths to shop from, and more. Dr. Mohd Faizal Hamzah, Co-Chairman of Precious of Malaysia, also commented that the libraries have now shifted its functions to not only serve as a source of knowledge, but they need to be transposed to bring to life the concept of an open library culture.

MOTAC, FM Group, and UM are ecstatic to share Malaysia’s culture and heritage with the world and hope that this festival will be a driving factor in encouraging more people to visit Malaysia’s beautiful attractions and immerse themselves in our extraordinary harmonious multiculturalism society – found nowhere else in the world.
