Firefly Airlines marked an important step in its regional expansion with the launch of its first direct flight from Mactan–Cebu International Airport to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. This new connection strengthens Malaysia–Philippines air links and supports Malaysia’s tourism growth ahead of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
The inaugural flight, FY3963, left Cebu at 2:00 p.m. and landed in Kuala Lumpur at around 5:40 p.m. Beginning 2 December 2025, Firefly will operate five direct weekly flights between Cebu and Kuala Lumpur using the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, offering 189 seats per flight to meet rising travel demand.
With this new service, Filipino travellers now have easier access to Malaysia’s cultural attractions, culinary diversity, and leisure destinations. The route opens opportunities for travellers to enjoy heritage cities such as Melaka and George Town, experience Malaysia’s multi-ethnic cuisine, and explore its natural landscapes.
From January to August 2025, Malaysia welcomed 401,203 visitors from the Philippines, an increase of 8.2 per cent compared to the same period in 2024. The introduction of this Cebu–Kuala Lumpur route is expected to boost arrivals further while strengthening trade, investment, and cultural exchange between both nations.
Tourism Malaysia continues to work closely with airline partners to expand regional connectivity and increase seat capacity. The direct service from Cebu to Kuala Lumpur forms an important part of Malaysia’s access strategy for the Philippines, supporting visitor growth and advancing the goals of Visit Malaysia 2026.
