Canteen Malaya has officially opened its doors along Jalan Alor, introducing a fresh seafood dining concept that combines live seafood, an open kitchen and a four-level dining space for both Malaysian diners and international visitors.
Located in one of Kuala Lumpur’s best-known food destinations, Canteen Malaya offers fresh Malaysian seafood in a comfortable, air-conditioned environment designed for relaxed and leisurely dining.
The restaurant’s concept centres around its live seafood selection and open kitchen, allowing diners to select their preferred seafood and watch it being prepared before being served.
“Our focus is simple: to serve fresh, honest seafood to everyday diners,” said Ms Patricia Wong, Management Representative of Canteen Malaya.
According to Wong, the restaurant was created specifically for Jalan Alor, a destination known for attracting both locals and tourists looking for Malaysian food. The open kitchen concept allows guests to see their seafood being prepared while enjoying their meals in a spacious setting.

The restaurant’s interior draws inspiration from Jalan Alor’s lively food scene while offering a more contemporary dining environment. A central garden filled with greenery and natural light from a skylight creates a calm atmosphere, complemented by warm wood finishes, earthy tones and an open multi-level layout.
Among the highlights on the menu is the restaurant’s extensive crab selection, featuring more than 30 flavours and preparations. Its 12 signature creations include Salted Egg Crab, Kam Heong Crab, Sour and Spicy Crab, Indonesian Crab and White Pepper Crab.
Beyond its crab offerings, diners can also enjoy giant tiger prawns, fresh fish prepared in various styles, as well as steamed clams and squid.
Spanning four levels, Canteen Malaya can accommodate up to 700 guests. The basement houses the main kitchen, while the ground floor serves as the primary dining area. The first floor provides additional dining space and private rooms, while the second floor features an event hall with a capacity of up to 250 guests.
With its range of dining spaces and seafood offerings, Canteen Malaya caters to various occasions, from casual meals and family gatherings to private functions and larger celebrations.
