PCEB Strengthens Business Events Workforce Through Strategic Academic Collaborations

PENANG, 21 JULY 2026 – The Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) is strengthening its commitment to developing a skilled, competitive and future-ready workforce for Malaysia’s Business Events (BE) industry through strategic partnerships with six leading higher education institutions. Formalised through the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), the collaborations further strengthen the connection between academia and industry while creating opportunities to nurture emerging talent capable of meeting the evolving demands of the Business Events sector.

The MoU signing ceremony, held at Olive Tree Hotel Penang, took place in conjunction with the BE Associate programme, an industry talent development initiative designed to connect the next generation of professionals with practical experience, industry knowledge and career opportunities within the Business Events sector. The six participating institutions are SENTRAL College Penang, DISTED College, INTI International College Penang, SEGi College Penang, UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College (Batu Kawan Campus), and Taylor’s University (Lakeside Campus).

The strategic partnerships establish a long-term framework between PCEB and the participating academic institutions to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry experience. Through these collaborations, students will gain greater exposure to industry-led conferences, forums, workshops, internships and knowledge-sharing sessions, allowing them to engage directly with Business Events professionals and gain a deeper understanding of the sector’s changing needs.

Beyond industry exposure, the partnerships will also support initiatives focused on talent development, capacity building, professional development and career readiness. These efforts are aimed at equipping students with practical knowledge, industry awareness and professional competencies that complement their academic education and prepare them for future careers.

As Penang’s Business Events industry continues to grow, developing skilled and industry-ready talent remains essential to maintaining the destination’s long-term competitiveness. The MoUs reflect PCEB’s broader commitment to strengthening collaboration between academia and industry while creating clearer pathways for young talents to explore the diverse career opportunities available within the Business Events ecosystem.

Through the BE Associate programme, PCEB continues to bring students closer to the industry by facilitating direct engagement with industry stakeholders and creating platforms for experiential learning. The programme serves as an important bridge, allowing students to gain first-hand insights into the wide range of professional opportunities available throughout the Business Events value chain.

The strategic partnerships are expected to enhance student employability and career readiness, strengthen collaboration between academic institutions and industry stakeholders, and increase awareness of professional standards and career opportunities within the Business Events sector.

By investing in the next generation of talent, PCEB aims to support the continued growth, resilience and competitiveness of Penang and Malaysia’s Business Events industry. The initiative also seeks to ensure that the future workforce is equipped with the knowledge, skills and professional capabilities needed to respond effectively to the changing demands of an increasingly dynamic global industry.
