AARON KWOK-LED FAMILY DRAMA “JUNE” TO MAKE WORLD PREMIERE AT THE 9TH MIFFEST WITH SPECIAL APPEARANCE BY MAGGIE CHEUNG HO-YEE

The 9th Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) is set to shine a spotlight on Asian cinema with the World Premiere of June (六月的秘密), an emotional family drama co-produced by China and Hong Kong SAR, China. Directed by rising filmmaker Wang Yang, the film brings together an acclaimed international cast led by Asian superstar Aaron Kwok and celebrated Chinese actress Miao Miao, delivering a heartfelt story that explores family, identity, sacrifice and belonging.

Filmed on location in New York City’s historic Chinatown, June follows the journey of a talented young cellist whose seemingly stable life is turned upside down when she uncovers a hidden secret about the father who raised her. As she prepares for a life-changing music competition, she embarks on an emotional quest to uncover the truth about her family’s past. The journey forces her to confront complex questions about identity, love and personal sacrifice, ultimately revealing the enduring bonds that connect people beyond blood relations.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes veteran Hong Kong actor Liu Wai Hung, Chinese actor Jarvis Wu, TVB veteran Maggie Cheung Ho-yee, Hong Kong actress Paulyn Sun and Malaysian actor Fabian Loo. Their collective performances enrich the film’s multicultural narrative, highlighting the diverse perspectives and experiences that shape modern family relationships.

Director Wang Yang, a graduate of New York’s School of Visual Arts, has been recognised as one of the emerging voices in Chinese-language cinema. Her debut feature June previously gained attention through its selection at the prestigious Golden Horse Film Project Promotion platform, further raising anticipation for its official world premiere at MIFFest.

With its emotionally resonant story, distinguished cast and culturally rich setting, June is expected to be one of the standout titles at this year’s festival.
