The next time you reach for a bottle of MAGGI Chilli Sauce, you are tasting the hard work of Malaysian farmers. Nestlé Malaysia has reached a significant milestone in its journey toward national self-sufficiency, announcing that its fresh chilli supply is now 100% locally sourced.
This achievement was the centerpiece of an official visit by the Minister of Economy, YB Tuan Haji Akmal Nasrullah Bin Haji Mohd Nasir, to the IPRINTAN Putrajaya Project. The visit highlighted the “human element” behind the supply chain—showing how structured partnerships between the private sector and government can transform the lives of B40 communities while securing the nation’s food future.
Cultivating Livelihoods: The RM3,000 Average Income
At the heart of this success is the Nestlé Chilli Club (NCC). Established in 1995, the program has evolved from a small contract farming group in Kelantan into a nationwide network covering 146 acres across Kelantan, Selangor, Putrajaya, and Johor.

For the farmers involved in the IPRINTAN Putrajaya project, the results are life-changing. Participants now earn an average monthly income of approximately RM3,000, providing them with the financial stability needed to support their families. To date, the project’s fifth cycle in 2026 has produced over 200 tonnes of chillies, valued at an impressive RM1.5 million.
A Commitment to “Creating Shared Value”
Mr. Juan Aranols, Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Malaysia, noted that the project is a testament to the company’s commitment to “Creating Shared Value.”
“Our mission is to build a food system that is as resilient as it is inclusive. By empowering B40 households through long-term partnerships, we aren’t just sourcing ingredients; we are co-creating a sustainable future for the nation. The success of the IPRINTAN project proves that when we invest in our farmers, the whole country reaps the rewards,” said Aranols.
The Science of Sustainable Flavor
Nestlé doesn’t just buy the harvest; it invests in the soil. Farmers are trained in modern, regenerative agricultural practices. These eco-friendly methods help enhance farm productivity and ensure the chillies meet the high quality and traceability standards required for MAGGI products.
From the greenhouse innovations in Johor to the established fields of Bukit Awang, Kelantan, and Kuala Langat, Selangor, Nestlé ensures that local farmers have access to the latest agronomy support and a guaranteed market, year-round.
Nourishing the Nation Beyond Chillies
The Nestlé Chilli Club is part of the larger Farmer Connect umbrella, a movement that nourishes hundreds of farmers across various sectors:
- Sustainable Rice: Driving productivity in Kedah and Perlis.
- Responsible Cocoa: Partnering with the Malaysian Cocoa Board in Sabah and Sarawak.
- Coffee Excellence: Revitalizing coffee farming in Gua Musang, Kelantan, and Kedah.
By bridging the gap between local smallholders and large-scale manufacturing, Nestlé Malaysia is ensuring that the “Taste of Malaysia” starts with the success of Malaysian farmers.
