YTL Cement Secures Malaysia’s First Global Environmental Product Declaration

YTL Cement Group has become the first cement and precast producer in Malaysia to obtain Environmental Product Declarations for its ECOCem, ECOConcrete and precast product ranges. This marks a significant step forward in the company’s sustainability efforts and supports the nation’s move toward low-carbon construction.

An Environmental Product Declaration is a verified document that details a product’s environmental impact throughout its life cycle based on international standards like ISO14025 and the ISO14040 series. These declarations are increasingly important in green building certifications and help industry professionals choose materials that support their sustainability targets.

The newly certified products include Castle Cement, a Singapore Green Label certified option for bricklaying, screeding and concreting, as well as ECOConcrete Grade 40 and Grade 35, which are engineered to reduce embodied carbon without compromising durability. YTL Cement’s precast division, Eastern Pretech, also secured EPDs for hollow core slabs, beams, planks and double tee slabs, making them the first precast concrete products in Malaysia to obtain such certification.

This milestone builds on YTL Cement’s broader commitment to decarbonising the construction value chain. The company was the first in Malaysia to introduce its ECO range, including ECOCem, ECOConcrete, ECOSand and ECODrymix. Through its partnership with CREAM, the research arm of CIDB Malaysia, and its Construction Development Laboratory, the Group continues to drive research, innovation and industry training. The CDL Academy has supported more than 10,000 professionals and students in sustainability-focused upskilling.

Executive Director Rachel Yeoh highlighted that achieving EPD certification reflects the Group’s dedication to innovation and the development of low-carbon building solutions that help customers build more sustainably.

With these certifications, YTL Cement provides greater transparency and confidence for customers looking for environmentally responsible materials. The Group plans to continue working with regulators, industry partners and research institutions to strengthen sustainable construction practices and support Malaysia’s ambition toward carbon neutrality.
