The Huawei Cloud AI Ecosystem Summit APAC 2025 highlighted how cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) can accelerate economic growth in Malaysia and the broader ASEAN region, especially in high-impact sectors such as healthcare and manufacturing.
The event was officiated by YB Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital, who emphasized the importance of ethics and sustainability in Malaysia’s AI journey. He shared that the National AI Office (NAIO) is finalizing the AI Technology Action Plan 2026–2030 and regulatory frameworks to ensure AI adoption remains ethical, secure, and impactful. He also underscored that Malaysia’s Digital Economy Blueprint and the Malaysia Digital (MD) initiative are strengthened through strong public-private collaborations with technology leaders like Huawei.
Simon Sun, CEO of Huawei Malaysia, announced Huawei’s bold commitments for the country’s AI ecosystem. Huawei plans to train 30,000 AI talents within the next three years, covering students, government officials, industry leaders, and researchers. In addition, Huawei will support 200 local AI partners through expertise sharing, knowledge transfers, and collaborations with leading Chinese AI companies. Huawei Cloud will also act as a bridge for Chinese AI investments into Malaysia, helping to spark local innovation and the development of homegrown AI solutions.
These initiatives are part of the Huawei Cloud APAC AI Ecosystem Initiative, officially launched in the presence of Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the ASEAN AI Summit 2025. His attendance reinforced Malaysia’s strong commitment to driving AI adoption across ASEAN through strategic partnerships and talent development.
Aka Dai, Vice President of Huawei Cloud Marketing, highlighted that cloud and AI are now the core engines of growth and innovation. With 26 years of investment in ASEAN and seven years of Huawei Cloud operations in the region, Huawei is set to ramp up local investments and deliver inclusive cloud and AI technologies that will enhance economic competitiveness and social well-being.
Huawei Cloud also showcased its core strengths, including a global cloud infrastructure spanning 34 Regions and 101 Availability Zones, with five Regions and 17 AZs in ASEAN, ensuring ultra-low latency services. Its AI Cloud Service supports over 160 open-source models, while the industry-leading Pangu Models power its “AI for Industries” strategy, enabling tailored solutions across different sectors.
On Day 2 of the ASEAN AI Summit, Li Yin, CTO of Huawei Cloud Enterprise Intelligence, shared how Huawei Cloud has enabled AI adoption in over 30 industries and 500 real-world use cases worldwide. She outlined Huawei’s continued focus on building a secure AI foundation, expanding applications of the Pangu Models and ModelArts toolchain, and fostering ecosystem growth through collaborations with local innovators.
The summit also featured key speakers, including Shamsul Izhan Abdul Majid, Head of NAIO Malaysia; William Zhou, VP of iFLYTEK Open Platform; Dato Fadzli Shah, Co-Founder of Zetrix; Henry Li Nan, Managing Director of TrustDecision Malaysia; and Professor Ts. Dr. Ting Choo Yee of Multimedia University Malaysia.
