Malaysia Moves Towards Lower Carbon Emissions with BYD Sime Motors–Transport Ministry Collaboration

In a move to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and support Malaysia’s low-carbon mobility goals, BYD Sime Motors the official distributor of BYD cars and the country’s leading battery electric vehicle (BEV) brand has partnered with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to roll out a six-month experiential initiative titled “Jom Pandu BYD Bersama MOT.”

The program, launched at the MOT headquarters in Putrajaya, is supported by Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Gentari Sdn Bhd. As part of the initiative, two EV chargers have been installed at the MOT premises, allowing ministry personnel to test drive BYD’s full range of electric vehicles. This includes popular models such as the BYD SEALION 7, SEAL, ATTO 3 ULTRA, M6, and DOLPHIN.

The event was officiated by YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport, alongside Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors Southeast Asia. Also in attendance were YB Datuk Haji Hasbi Bin Habibollah (Deputy Minister of Transport), YBhg. Dato’ Jana Santhiran Muniayan (Secretary General, MOT), Adeline Lew (General Manager, BYD Sime Motors), and Izuan Hafiz (Head of Green Mobility MY-SG, Gentari).

Jeffrey Gan said during the launch that the partnership places BYD Sime Motors at the forefront of Malaysia’s EV transformation. By providing MOT personnel with hands-on experience of their EV lineup, the company aims to support the ministry’s sustainability agenda and encourage wider public and institutional adoption of EVs.

More than just a test drive program, “Jom Pandu BYD Bersama MOT” is a strategic step toward integrating EVs into government operations aligning with the National Energy Transition Roadmap’s goal of achieving 10,000 public EV chargers by 2025. Gentari currently operates over 530 charging points nationwide, with the newly added 22kW AC chargers in Putrajaya further strengthening the EV infrastructure.
