The Echo of Cinema Returns as MIFFest 2026 Unveils “Resonance,” Featuring a Dynamic New Ambassador Line-Up for Its 9th Edition

KUALA LUMPUR, 2 April – The Malaysia International Film Festival (MIFFest) returns for its highly anticipated 9th edition, set to take place from 18 to 25 July 2026 in Kuala Lumpur. Officially unveiled during a press conference at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur, the festival promises a vibrant celebration of cinema, culture, and cross-border storytelling. The opening ceremony will once again be held at MyTOWN Shopping Centre in collaboration with GSC International Screens, reinforcing MIFFest’s signature cinematic experience. With continued support from the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), the festival strengthens its standing as a key regional platform for cultural exchange and industry dialogue.

This year’s theme, “Resonance,” reflects the enduring impact of cinema beyond the screen. Conceptualised by MIFFest Founder and President Joanne Goh, the theme highlights storytelling as an emotional and intellectual force that lingers long after the final frame. Anchored in a striking purple visual identity symbolising introspection and transformation, the festival aims to spark conversations that transcend borders and generations. As the global landscape continues to evolve, MIFFest positions cinema as a powerful medium for empathy, awareness, and connection.

Adding further excitement, MIFFest 2026 introduces a dynamic ambassador line-up featuring Jack Tan and Zizan Razak, alongside returning ambassadors Daiyan Trisha and Bront Palarae. The festival also continues to expand its regional and global reach through initiatives such as ASEAN On Screen, collaborations with the Asian World Film Festival (AWFF), and its ongoing partnership with the Far East Film Festival (FEFF). New programmes, including AI-focused filmmaker initiatives and Russian Film Week, further highlight MIFFest’s commitment to innovation and international dialogue. As the festival approaches, MIFFest 2026 stands as a testament to the power of cinema to unite, inspire, and resonate across cultures.
