In 2024, Malaysian talent and businesses shone brightly across the global tech arena, showcasing groundbreaking innovations that earned them prestigious accolades in some of the most esteemed international competitions.

At the WITSA Excellence Awards in Armenia, Malaysia’s success was both profound and far-reaching. The Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC) received the Digital Opportunity/Inclusion Award for its impactful work in promoting SME digitalisation. Meanwhile, Telekom Research & Development Sdn Bhd bagged the Digital Transformation of the Year award for its Mobile Intelligent Network Diagnostic System (MINDS), a testament to Malaysia’s prowess in developing transformative digital solutions.

The first-ever WITSA World Cup, a global-scale pitching competition, saw Malaysian companies PANDAI EDUCATION and ENTOMAL BIOTECH clinch the top two spots. This victory not only showcased Malaysia’s competitive edge but also demonstrated the power of mentorship, strategic partnerships, and access to venture capital that are crucial for scaling tech businesses internationally.

On the global summit front, the ASOCIO Digital Summit in Tokyo also highlighted the achievements of Malaysian firms. Organizations like the Ministry of Digital and Heitech Padu Berhad were recognized with the esteemed ASOCIO DX Awards for their contributions to digital government services. Other award recipients included the National Cybersecurity Agency (NACSA), Glocomp Systems (M) Sdn Bhd, and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), which all received accolades for their exceptional work in cybersecurity and public-private partnerships.

November’s APICTA Awards in Brunei marked another milestone in Malaysia’s global achievements. Malaysian companies continued to excel, with myQuickHR Sdn Bhd clinching the top spot in the Artificial Intelligence category for their HR Avenue AI-powered talent acquisition solution. CARSOME and Meraque Services Sdn Bhd also secured runner-up positions in their respective categories, while other companies earned Merit awards for their innovative projects.

The success of Malaysian students, such as Wesley Methodist School Penang (International) and Foon Yew High School, highlighted the nation’s broad talent base, which spans from primary school students to established tech companies. These achievements reflect Malaysia’s exceptional ability to apply technology across various sectors, from agriculture and marketing to AI and edtech.

Looking ahead to 2025, PIKOM is more committed than ever to providing a platform for Malaysian innovators to shine on the global stage. The association encourages local businesses, startups, and young talents to participate in international competitions, which are pivotal for gaining exposure, networking with global leaders, and securing funding.

“The success of our companies and individuals internationally reflects the growing strength of Malaysia’s digital economy,” said Alex Liew, Chairman of PIKOM. “By continuing to participate in these global events, we can showcase our innovations, expand our networks, and gain invaluable insights into the evolving tech landscape.”

PIKOM calls on all Malaysian businesses, startups, and tech professionals to actively engage in global platforms throughout 2025. The journey to success on the international stage not only elevates individual companies but also contributes to Malaysia’s vision of becoming a global leader in technology and innovation.

With the support of government agencies, mentors, and the growing tech ecosystem, the future for Malaysia’s innovators has never been brighter. Together, we can continue to propel Malaysia to new heights in the global tech and innovation arenas, establishing our nation as a leader in the next era of technology.

PIKOM remains steadfast in its mission to build on these achievements, fostering more opportunities for Malaysia to take the spotlight on the global stage. Let’s continue this momentum and work together to create a future where Malaysian talent thrives across the world.
