Herbalife Sparks Innovation: Empowering UiTM Students to Lead the Next Wave of Entrepreneurship

In a bold move to bridge the gap between academic theory and commercial reality, Herbalife has deepened its long-standing partnership with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) through a high-impact Entrepreneurship Talk. Held at the Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation (FSR), the session challenged the traditional notion that business ventures should only begin after graduation, urging Gen Z students to embrace an entrepreneurial mindset while still on campus.

This initiative is part of a broader commitment that has seen Herbalife reach over 5,000 students and athletes across Malaysia, providing them with the tools to navigate the rapidly expanding health and wellness sector.

Addressing a diverse crowd of students and academics, Steven Chin, Senior Director and General Manager of Herbalife Malaysia and Singapore, highlighted that the barriers to starting a business are lower than ever. Citing a recent survey, Chin noted that 31% of Malaysian Gen Z are already eyeing business ownership to fulfill personal and family ambitions.

He emphasized that the modern entrepreneur does not need to have a perfect plan from day one; rather, the focus should be on identifying opportunities within challenges and leveraging established support systems. With over 70,000 distributors nationwide, Herbalife’s model serves as a case study for accessible entrepreneurship, offering low startup costs and a flexible pace that appeals to the younger generation.

The program also addressed the critical need for industry literacy, helping students distinguish legitimate direct-selling models from unethical schemes. Associate Professor Dr. Hosni Hasan, Deputy Dean of UiTM’s FSR, noted that such collaborations are essential for connecting classroom learning with real-world industry expectations. By hearing directly from UiTM alumni who successfully transitioned into the business world, students gained a grounded perspective on the grit and consistency required to succeed. These mentors, many of whom started their journey during their university years, shared that the secret to growth lies in finding guidance and following a proven system rather than waiting for a moment of total readiness.

For many first-year students, the session was a revelation that transformed their view of entrepreneurship from a distant career path into an achievable daily practice. The partnership, which has evolved significantly since 2022, continues to integrate business and wellness education into the student experience. Looking ahead, the collaboration will shift its focus toward nutrition education, with upcoming sessions led by global experts to further equip students with a holistic understanding of healthy living and professional development.

Through these sustained efforts, Herbalife and UiTM are not just teaching a subject, but cultivating a resilient new generation of Malaysian business leaders.
