Sixteen years old Malaysian open water swimming prodigy Max Tang is set to proudly fly the Jalur Gemilang as the national flag bearer at the prestigious OCEANMAN World Finals Championships 2026, held in Miches, Dominican Republic from November 13 until15.

Max earned his global ticket following a phenomenal display of endurance at OCEANMAN Kota Kinabalu in July, where he clinched double victory in both the 2km Sprint and 5km Half Oceanman events. Astoundingly, the 15 years old did not just dominate his junior division but he triumphed overall against seasoned adult competitors across all age brackets. His stellar year also featured stellar performances at the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) 2026 and inclusion on the SEA Age Group Swimming Championships longlist.
In the Dominican Republic, Max will battle the world’s elite junior swimmers in the 15 and 19 age categories. Beyond the medals, bearing the national flag is a supreme honor. “It is an incredible privilege to represent Malaysia and carry our flag. I will give my very best in both races,” shared Max.
Balancing this grueling international sports trajectory with rigorous academics, the Year 11 Garden International School (GIS) student is concurrently studying for 10 IGCSE qualifications, having already secured two A grades. Max proves that scholastic dedication and athletic excellence can go hand in hand.
As he steps onto the global stage, Max Tang carries the hopes of a nation, inspiring a new generation of young Malaysian athletes to dream bigger and push beyond boundaries.
