KUALA LUMPUR, 5 June 2025 – Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur have improved their standings in the ICCA (International Congress & Convention Association) 2024 Country & City Rankings, showing growth as top destinations for international business events.

Malaysia hosted 129 international association meetings in 2024, moving up two places to 31st in the global country rankings and placing 9th in the Asia Pacific region. Kuala Lumpur jumped six spots to 26th in the world city rankings, with 78 international meetings held, many at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

John Burke, General Manager of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, said, “Malaysia offers great connectivity with KLIA served by 79 airlines and visa-free access to 175 countries. We also have a mature supply chain, high English proficiency, and a favorable exchange rate. Combined with our rich culture and natural attractions, Malaysia is a strong choice for business events.”

The Centre works closely with the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) to promote Malaysia internationally. In 2025, they attended major trade shows such as AIME in Melbourne and IMEX in Frankfurt, with plans to join events in London and Barcelona later this year.

Sustainability is a key focus for the Centre. In 2024, it achieved 100% food waste composting and adopted green electricity to reduce emissions. They aim to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 25% and are working towards ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management. To meet changing delegate needs, the Centre has upgraded its facilities with hybrid technology, better audio-visual equipment, and a shared workspace for delegates to work comfortably between sessions.

Located under the Petronas Twin Towers in the KLCC precinct, the Centre offers 34,000 sqm of flexible space and holds multiple ISO certifications for food safety, environmental management, anti-bribery, and facility management. Business events are expected to contribute RM42.12 billion (USD 9.9 billion) to Malaysia’s economy by 2030. The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre is proud to support this growth.
