Google & ChangeX Launch Semarak Malaysia Fund to Empower Selangor

ChangeX, the global community engagement platform, and Google have officially launched the Google Semarak Malaysia Fund: Selangor. This strategic initiative is designed to nurture community spirit and drive sustainable growth across the state of Selangor by supporting local, community-led projects.

Managed by ChangeX, the fund positions Google as a dedicated partner in turning local visions into reality. By investing in neighborhoods where it operates, Google aims to empower communities to lead initiatives in workforce skilling, digital literacy, and climate action.

The partnership provides a comprehensive toolkit for progress, enabling local schools and organizations to implement proven ideas that sustain their communities. Key focus areas for the fund include:

  • Upskilling & Career Pathways: Funding vocational and digital literacy programs to build a future-ready workforce.
  • Small Business Growth: Helping low-income entrepreneurs develop essential digital and financial skills.
  • Environmental Resilience: Training community leaders to run hands-on repair workshops to reduce waste and build technical skills.

Beyond pre-vetted ideas, the fund serves as a catalyst for local expertise by allowing organizations to apply for funding for their own unique, homegrown projects.

“Through this partnership, we look forward to working with communities across Selangor to build practical skills and deliver sustainable initiatives in areas like water stewardship and energy affordability,” said Utaukwa Allen, Global Head of Economic Development & Data Centers at Google. “We are excited to partner with ChangeX, which brings deep experience in supporting community-led action.”

Niamh McKenna, Co-founder and Head of Impact at ChangeX, added: “Together with Google, we’re backing community-led action in Selangor—drawing on proven ideas while giving local changemakers the freedom to respond to specific local needs.”

Eligible local schools and organizations can apply to start a proven idea or submit their own unique project, with funding of up to RM30,000 available per initiative.

All applications will be reviewed based on the fund’s criteria and impact potential. The deadline for submission is 9th June 2026. For more information or to start an application, please visit: https://bit.ly/4bB8kjI.
