The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) is honoured to be selected as the official venue for the 46th ASEAN Summit, taking place on 26 and 27 May 2025. This appointment reaffirms the Centre’s legacy as Malaysia’s most trusted stage for high-level multilateral engagements, especially as it celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. With two decades of proven expertise, the Centre has become a key national asset, consistently delivering world-class event experiences while supporting Malaysia’s role on the global stage.
Over the years, the Centre has successfully hosted a number of prominent and security-sensitive events, including the 12th ASEAN Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting (AFMGM), the 2022 KL Summit, and the United Nations’ 9th World Urban Forum in 2018. Despite increasing risks such as cyber threats and financial espionage, the Centre has maintained a flawless security track record, with zero breaches reported for any of these high-profile gatherings. Dignitaries ranging from heads of state and diplomats to senior government officials have been welcomed with unwavering safety and professionalism.
According to John Burke, General Manager of the Centre, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre is more than just a venue it is a national platform that contributes meaningfully to Malaysia’s international presence. With 34,000 square metres of purpose-built space, integrated infrastructure, and a prime location in the heart of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) Precinct, the Centre is designed to deliver seamless, delay-free experiences for thousands of international delegates. Burke emphasised that this capability is underpinned by a dedicated team and a commitment to excellence in both service and operations.
Strategically nestled beneath the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, the Centre offers unparalleled accessibility. It connects directly to five on-site hotels and is within walking distance of over 22,000 rooms, ranging from luxury to budget accommodations. The surrounding precinct also boasts over 350 dining options, climate-controlled pedestrian walkways linking Suria KLCC and the wider city, and direct integration with public transport networks. These features provide not only logistical ease but also a rich experience for delegates attending international summits.
A key strength of the Centre lies in its in-house capabilities, particularly its halal-certified commercial kitchens—the largest of their kind in Malaysia. This enables the Centre to offer high-volume, compliant catering services without relying on external providers. Additionally, institutionalised security protocols have been developed in close collaboration with national police, traffic authorities, and private security experts, ensuring that every aspect of event security is rigorously managed.
To stay at the forefront of the global business events industry, the Centre continuously invests in technological enhancements. Recent upgrades include cutting-edge LED displays, advanced audiovisual systems, AI-powered smart room controls, and enterprise-grade cybersecurity frameworks. These are complemented by ISO-certified sustainable practices that allow the Centre to meet the evolving needs of international clients while aligning with global environmental standards.
As the Centre marks two decades of leadership in Malaysia’s business events landscape, it holds the distinction of being the only venue in the country to have hosted three ASEAN Summits in 2005, 2015, and now 2025. Since opening in 2005, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre has hosted over 22,000 events, welcomed 29 million visitors, and contributed RM12.6 billion to the national economy. It continues to serve as Malaysia’s strategic platform for global engagement, converting major events into tangible benefits for the country and its people.
