Sarawak Introduces AI.LEGACY, World’s First AI-Powered System for Managing Business Event Legacies

In a pioneering move, Sarawak has become the first region globally to launch AI.LEGACY, an intelligent impact management system that is set to transform the way business events are evaluated and managed. Designed specifically to monitor, measure, and report the legacies of business events hosted in Sarawak, this innovative system harnesses the power of artificial intelligence to offer a new, data-driven approach to legacy management.

AI.LEGACY boasts four key objectives:

  1. Tracking Real-Time Impacts – Providing accurate, real-time data on the effects of business events.
  2. Data-Driven Decision Making – Enabling event planners to make informed, data-backed decisions.
  3. AI-Driven Data Management – Collecting, analyzing, and managing event-related data with the help of artificial intelligence.
  4. Positioning Sarawak as a Legacy Leader – Establishing Sarawak as the legacy capital for business events in Malaysia and Borneo.

“This is a momentous achievement for Sarawak. After years of research, strategic planning, and valuable learning experiences, we are proud to introduce AI.LEGACY,” said The Hon. Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak. “AI.LEGACY is a 100% locally developed project, a result of collaboration between BESarawak and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). This system empowers event planners, enabling them to better assess their contributions to Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

With the introduction of AI.LEGACY, Sarawak aims to set a global benchmark in business event legacy management, leveraging cutting-edge technology to drive greater sustainability and social impact. The system’s ability to collect, analyze, and report on both economic and non-economic outcomes promises to enhance the long-term benefits of business events, ultimately positioning Sarawak as a leader in the global events industry.

BESarawak Leads the Way with AI.LEGACY, Advancing Business Event Legacy Management

BESarawak has announced significant progress in achieving its Impact Master Action Plan 2023-2025, with the introduction of AI.LEGACY, an intelligent impact management system that is set to transform the way business events’ legacies are measured and reported. This development ensures that the business events sector in Sarawak not only thrives but also delivers measurable social, environmental, and cultural benefits to society.

Dato Sri Abang Haji Abdul Karim bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chairman of BESarawak, expressed pride in the achievement: “BESarawak is very pleased to be ahead of schedule in achieving the Impact Master Action Plan 2023-2025. This now ensures that the business events sector in Sarawak continues to thrive while delivering measurable benefits to society.”

A key challenge highlighted by Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak, is the difficulty in measuring and reporting non-economic legacies of business events. “The sector has traditionally focused on quantitative data, which often leaves significant social, environmental, and cultural impacts unreported. We need to shift our focus to these broader outcomes, and AI.LEGACY is designed to facilitate that change,” she said.

AI.LEGACY aims to automate and streamline the process of gathering and analyzing data, enabling planners to generate detailed reports that validate their work. This powerful tool increases the chances of securing additional support, such as funding and endorsements, and helps businesses improve long-term strategic planning. “AI.LEGACY simplifies processes and provides real-time insights, empowering planners to make data-backed decisions and drive greater impact,” Roziman added.

Prof. Dr. Lo May Chiun, the Project Leader for AI.LEGACY and Senior Director of the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Centre at UNIMAS, highlighted the system’s potential to benefit multiple sectors. “My team and I are confident that AI.LEGACY will unlock the full potential not only for the business events sector but also for other industries. In a world where economic, social, and environmental factors are intertwined, it is crucial to have tools that provide a comprehensive understanding of both economic and non-economic benefits,” she stated.

AI.LEGACY will serve as a one-stop platform for users to book legacy clinic sessions and submit applications for awards such as the Borneo Inspires Legacy Awards 2025. The system will be available for use starting early Q3 2025, offering a new era of impact measurement and strategic planning for business events.

Sarawak is setting a new global standard for business event legacy management, with AI.LEGACY providing the tools to help event planners and industries make a lasting, meaningful impact.
