Sony Unveils Groundbreaking Innovations at NAB Show 2025: Transforming the Future of Media Production
From April 6-9, 2025, Sony Electronics will take center stage at the NAB Show in Las Vegas (Booth N439), offering attendees an immersive experience in cutting-edge technology that’s reshaping the landscape of media and entertainment. Focusing on four key areas live production, news and production workflows, imaging solutions, and virtual production Sony is unveiling innovations that will empower creators, broadcasters, and production teams to push the boundaries of creativity and productivity.
New highlights at Sony’s NAB Show exhibit include the introduction of a Super35mm Camera System with Variable Neutral Density (VND), an ultra-compact Full-Frame Camera Extension System, and a camera tracking solution to enrich content creation. These technologies represent Sony’s commitment to enhancing the creative process and enabling flexible production workflows.
Sony is leading the charge with next-gen tools, harnessing cloud technology, IP protocols, and augmented extended reality (XR) for enhanced cinematic capture, spatial content creation, and virtual effects workflows. These innovations are designed to streamline production processes, enhance collaboration, and provide creators with the flexibility and efficiency needed to bring their visions to life.
Live production will be revolutionized with the debut of the HDC-F5500V Super 35mm 4K CMOS camera, designed for the most demanding live production environments. Featuring a global shutter imager, a PL lens mount, and new VND capabilities, this camera offers unparalleled image quality and workflow flexibility. A firmware update for the CNA-2 Camera Control Network Adapter will allow remote operation of multiple cameras, ideal for large-scale productions, such as sporting events. Additionally, Sony will showcase the HDC-P50A, a compact, lightweight POV camera, offering 4K output, IP connectivity, and full CCU integration.
Sony’s new BVM-HX1710 and BVM-HX1710N professional 4K monitors will also make their debut, offering excellent contrast and brightness for HDR and SDR production. These monitors, featuring a peak luminance of 3,000 nits, come equipped with advanced tools for precise calibration and comparison between 4K and HD video signals.
In imaging, Sony will present the VENICE Extension System Mini, a new solution that adds flexibility to the VENICE 2 digital cinema camera. This compact system allows for stereoscopic content creation in tight spaces, ideal for spatial content and VFX. The BURANO full-frame cinema camera will also receive a firmware update, offering new recording formats for faster sensor performance and enhanced image quality.
Sony’s virtual production offerings are set to shine at NAB Show 2025, including the introduction of the OCELLUS Camera Tracking System. This marker-free system, ideal for both indoor and outdoor use, enables precise tracking for a variety of broadcast and cinematic applications. The OCELLUS system is expected to be available in Q4 2025, providing a powerful solution for virtual production workflows.
Sony’s Virtual Production Tool Set will also gain new features, including pre-visualization capabilities and real-time moiré alerts for the VENICE 2 camera. These tools are designed to streamline the virtual production process, allowing creators to visualize their projects before they even begin filming.
In news and production workflows, the Ci Media Cloud® will showcase its enhanced capabilities, including support for a wide range of camera RAW formats and direct camera-to-cloud uploads for cameras like the FX3, FX30, and Alpha 7S III. This will simplify and accelerate post-production workflows, making collaboration more seamless and efficient.
The NAB Show will also highlight Sony’s contributions to live sports production through Hawk-Eye Innovations. The company will showcase HawkREPLAY, an instant replay solution that can be used across flexible production environments, from on-premise to hybrid and remote setups. New features for the HawkNEST asset management and ISO record system will also be on display, enhancing production capabilities for sports organizations.
