Sime Darby Beyond Auto, the authorised retail partner for BYD under Sime Motors, has unveiled BYD Mansion Macalister, a distinctive new electric mobility destination in Penang.
Located along the historic Jalan Macalister, the century-old building that now houses BYD Mansion Macalister was previously a well-known commercial landmark within the local community, accommodating various businesses and offices over the years. Through a careful restoration and adaptive reuse process, the heritage property has been thoughtfully transformed into Malaysia’s first BYD heritage-concept showroom.
The restoration preserves the building’s distinctive architectural character while introducing a contemporary retail environment centred on the future of electric mobility. With this transformation, the mansion enters a new chapter as BYD Mansion Macalister, symbolising a unique blend of heritage architecture and modern innovation.
Set on a 26,994 sq ft parcel of land with approximately 9,000 sq ft of built-up space, the property has been reimagined as a boutique automotive destination rather than a conventional dealership. The showroom features four curated display vehicles presented in a gallery-like setting, allowing them to be showcased like art pieces. The space is complemented by lounge-style consultation areas and a private delivery room designed to offer customers a personalised vehicle handover experience.
Beyond the showroom experience, BYD Mansion Macalister also functions as a fully integrated ownership destination. The on-site service centre is equipped with five work bays, one alignment bay and three service reception bays, providing customers with convenient access to after-sales services within the same compound.
To support the growing electric vehicle ecosystem in Penang, the mansion also includes an urban charging hub equipped with one 60kW DC fast charger and seven AC chargers, offering convenient charging facilities for EV owners.

The launch also marks another significant milestone in Sime Darby Beyond Auto’s partnership with BYD, which began in December 2022. Today, the company operates a growing network of BYD retail and service locations across Malaysia, including Ara Damansara, TREC Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Tebrau.
Sime Darby Beyond Auto’s achievements within the BYD network have also been recognised at the national level. BYD Penang was recently awarded Best BYD Dealer in Malaysia for overall performance, while the group secured 13 out of 27 awards at this year’s BYD Dealer Conference and Awards Night, reflecting its commitment to excellence in retail operations and customer experience.
