Digital Leadership Excellence Programme (DLE) Concludes with Industry Visit to Shenzhen

DLE

The Digital Leadership Excellence Programme (DLE), titled “Navigating the Tech Frontier,” has successfully concluded its inaugural session, which involved 47 participants from various sectors, including government, academia, and industry. This initiative was spearheaded by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in collaboration with Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

The DLE programme was established in response to Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim’s directive during the 2023 Malaysia ICT Summit. Its primary aim is to develop a cadre of digital leaders capable of driving Malaysia’s digital transformation across public and private sectors. The programme aligns with MCMC’s National Policy Objectives, which focus on enhancing industry capabilities and positioning Malaysia as a leader in the ASEAN digital economy.

The DLE consisted of an eight-month hybrid training programme, which included online learning, workshops, and practical attachments. Participants engaged in comprehensive training covering various aspects of digital transformation, including:

– Transportation technology
– Talent development strategies
– Sustainability for small and medium enterprises (SMEs)
– Implementation of Green Data Centers
– Development of a Smart Government Portal

The programme culminated in a seven-day industry visit to Shenzhen, known as China’s Silicon Valley. This visit aimed to provide participants with exposure to leading tech innovations and best practices in the industry. Notable activities included:

– Visits to prominent companies such as Da-Jiang Innovations (DJI), a leader in drone technology, and Build Your Dreams (BYD), a major electric vehicle manufacturer.
– Exploration of Huawei’s Research Campus in Dongguan, highlighting the company’s R&D capabilities.
– A tour of Shenzhen Museum City, illustrating the city’s rapid transformation into a global tech hub.

During the visit, participants presented capstone projects designed to address specific challenges in their respective industries. The projects were developed throughout the programme and are expected to be evaluated during a graduation ceremony scheduled for early December 2024.

The DLE programme aims to cultivate a total of 300 digital leaders over the next three years. By focusing on cross-sector collaboration, it seeks to redefine leadership in the digital landscape and stimulate technological innovation within Malaysia’s economy and public services. The strategic emphasis on digital transformation is identified as a critical driver for future growth and success.

The DLE has established a foundational framework for enhancing digital leadership capabilities in Malaysia. The insights and experiences gained during the Shenzhen visit are expected to significantly contribute to the participants’ ability to implement digital initiatives that foster innovation and agility within their organizations.
