Borneo Pickleball Tournament Donates 500 Books to SK Ulu Sungai Merah Students

Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Sungai Merah received a donation of 500 books today, as part of the Borneo Pickleball International Tournament’s (BPIT) initiative to contribute to the community beyond sports. This donation is set to benefit the school’s 874 students by providing them with better access to educational materials and enhancing their learning opportunities.

The BPIT, which is the first pickleball tournament of its kind in Borneo, not only focused on competitive sports but also on making a positive social impact. The Kuching Pickleball Association, the event’s organiser, partnered with BESarawak’s Books Build Legacy programme, The Hills Kuching shopping mall, and local news outlet Dayak Daily to bring this meaningful initiative to life.

Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak, explained that the selection of SK Ulu Sungai Merah as the recipient of the donation was made after consultations with various local groups, including the Malaysian Puppetry Association, the Lions Club of Sibu Seduan, and the Village Development and Security Committee of Batu 6-15 Jalan Oya. Their local knowledge was vital in identifying the school that would benefit most from this contribution.

The books were handed over to the school during a special ceremony, attended by key representatives from BESarawak, the school’s administration, the Malaysian Puppetry Association, the Lions Club of Sibu Seduan, and the Village Development and Security Committee of Batu 6-15 Jalan Oya.
