In the race to build a world-class digital economy, Malaysia cannot rely solely on new graduates to meet its workforce needs. There is a growing urgency to upskill existing professionals, technicians, and educators to ensure they remain relevant in an age defined by AI, big data, and hyperconnectivity. Recognising this need, Huawei Malaysia has embarked on a comprehensive effort to support nationwide reskilling and upskilling, working hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Human Resources (MOHR) and other government bodies.
A flagship initiative under this collaboration is the transformation of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system. With a focus on integrating cutting-edge technologies like 5G, AI, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT) into vocational training programmes, Huawei is empowering Malaysia’s workforce to stay ahead in the digital age. This is especially critical for industries undergoing rapid digitisation, where traditional skills are becoming obsolete and digital fluency is now a baseline requirement.
One of the most significant outcomes of this partnership is the establishment of the JTM-Huawei TVET Centre at the Institut Latihan Perindustrian (ILP) in Kuala Lumpur. Launched in February 2025, the centre represents a state-of-the-art facility for workforce training, where more than 400 individuals have already received practical instruction as part of the first batch of 1,000 trainees. Participants gain access to Huawei-certified courses and hands-on experience with the very tools and systems powering today’s digital transformation.
Beyond technical instruction, Huawei’s initiatives also support TVET educators—ensuring instructors themselves are trained to teach modern technologies, thereby creating a multiplier effect across the system. These efforts are supported by national investments, including RM7.5 billion allocated in Budget 2025 specifically for TVET development.
Huawei’s role in this ecosystem goes beyond being a technology provider. It is an active collaborator and catalyst for change, helping to bridge the gap between industry requirements and workforce capabilities. The upskilling and reskilling of Malaysia’s talent pool isn’t just a strategy—it’s a necessity. And Huawei is ensuring that no segment of the workforce is left behind in this transformation.
